“I believe a house should capture the essence of its owner. In order to achieve this, my client and I have to work hand in hand. It has been a great pleasure to co-create some beautiful spaces.”
In this home I had a great time co- creating it’s interior. The theme is comfortable modern, the goal – to design his dream home. What started as a simple kitchen remodel turned into a full home remodel. Being a very busy businessman and single father, my client required help to make his dream come true; Someone to put his ideas into a cohesive vision and do the legwork , bounce ideas off of , liaise with the contractor, keep track of all the details and to help create not only an environment that spoke to his passions, that spoke to who he was becoming- a father of a maturing son and grandfather, and to have a place of solace and peace to come home to. We-and I do mean we- came up with the color story (palette) and use for each room. I helped him stretch out of his comfort zone with tile designs for kitchen and bath, unique mirror designs, display options and interesting furniture. We created customized carpets, furniture and surfaces. We created a haven for his son and himself. We bought fine art and had the pieces custom framed, shopped for furniture and fabrics, designed custom bedding and pillows and window coverings. I outfitted the kitchen from silverware to cookware, brought in pots and plants, did all the murals and faux. All cohesive from room to room. All telling the story of the man and son who was to live there. All made to be enjoyed for years to come. When friends or guests walk into his home, they know who he is, what he loves and they know he is home. |
The feeling of the home shown here is eclectic. Shades of Turkish, Oriental and India inspired fabrics, textures and furniture mixed with traditional furniture, watery nontraditional color pallet and interesting art. The spaces were very large and we managed to create a comfortable and cozy feel in each room. The bones of the house were there wonderful, just monochromatic- which is very safe. And, there was a limited budget which was to be spent on furniture, interesting light fixtures, colorful fabrics, rugs and most importantly paint. We went from beige to soft teal, spring green and dusty purple. The intention was to create an intimate, comfortable and welcoming home to live and entertain in. The success of our intentions were expressed by every person who walked in the door. |
More Design Considerations
I have created and applied a wide range of faux finished, decorative plaster techniques, stenciling, hand painted motifs and embellishments, murals and trompe l’oeil for over 25 years all over the United States and the UK. (samples link)
I am still available to create commissioned art pieces, murals and trompe l’ oeil. I now only consult and recommend other specialty finishes.
